Andrew Scotchie, Clint Roberts, and Dave Desmelik have all earned credit across the region as accomplished and rising singer/songwriters. In part because of the excellent musicianship behind their songs, but moreover because of the genuine heart and soul put into the songwriting process they share. These three singer/songwriters will be sharing the stage together at 185 King St in Brevard, NC on Friday, January 24th –8pm. If you enjoy honest songs, engaging stories, and skilled musicians then this promises to be an evening not to miss. ORIGINAL MUSIC MATTERS

Andrew Scotchie:

Andrew Scotchie is a an award winning Asheville NC based songwriter, bandleader and event planner.  Since 2010 Andrew has been taking his high brand of high energy rock, blues and soul all over the country, recorded 4 studio albums, 2 live records and produced several community driven events (most notably Asheville Barnaroo and The Christmas Kickback in Brevard NC).
2019 proved to be the most expansive year yet and has set the stage for an even bigger 2020.  Sharing the stage with the likes of guitar wizard Eric Gales, performing at staple music festivals such as Bristol Rhythm & Roots, being voted the # 1 rock act in WNC  and touring the US as far as Helena MT to NYC has made Andrew Scotchie a seasoned player at age 26.   Find his latest single "Natural Romantic" everywhere you listen to music dont miss him when he or his band come to a town near you.
Clint Roberts:

"Sad Boi Roots Rock" is as apt of a term as one will probably hear for Clint Roberts' sound. It's not quite country. It's not quite Americana or Rock & Roll. It is a trifecta of the three, followed close by Robert's pop sensibility. But you won't find any backing tracks typical of a pop performance in a Clint Roberts show. There's no lip syncing or choreographed routines. No, what there is a young man, his voice, and his questions to the world.

Clint was raised in Brevard, North Carolina, a small Appalachian town in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Music-making started as more of an emotional outlet than a desire for a career path for Roberts, who originally had chosen a career in stage acting for himself. In his late teenage years, Clint was inspired by the rugged folk rock sounds of early Avett Brothers and the skilled finger picking of The Tallest Man On Earth. Clint picked up guitar and banjo while focusing on writing and singing songs that his friends could play along to. After graduating from high school in 2012, Clint and his high school/college band The Fox Fire would go onto being an established folk rock act in the Boone music scene, sometimes often selling out local venues. In 2014, he left from the project to focus on his solo creative efforts and by 2017 he would release his first album while living in East Nashville. Hamlet Blues, a record covering themes of heartbreak, mental illness, and existential dread, caught the attention of regional radio stations and fans of Americana and Roots music.

Driving beats, furious fingerstyle guitar, and soaring catchy choruses are what you can expect at a Clint Roberts' show these days. Since the release of Hamlet Blues, Roberts has returned home from Nashville to the mountains of Western North Carolina. There, he has assembled a crew of regional musicians to help his songs reach their full head-bobbing and dance potential. Featuring pedal steel, drums, piano/organ, bass, and harmony vocals, Clint Roberts & The Wonder Drug are now regularly touring major cities in the South East. In August of 2019, Clint became affiliated with LA based Round Table Management. He and his management are currently preparing for his debut record release in 2020.

Dave Desmelik:

Dave Desmelik is a singer-songwriter and instrumentalist whose musical focus is on original compositions. What attracts listeners to Desmelik’s tunes, old and new, is the element of authenticity incorporated in them. There is no sugar coating involved. His songs are not wrapped in false smiles, rather they are stark and open and tend to settle on the pulse of everyday life. An unclosed and evolving journal of thoughts set to music and melodies in prose and instrumental performance. Desmelik was born and raised just outside of Atlanta, GA, but has traveled and lived in a multitude of landscapes. He currently resides in Brevard, NC. He was an original member of Onus B. Johnson, a successful band based in Flagstaff, AZ in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. This band was on the front wave of jamgrass while maintaining the passion for songwriting. Today, Desmelik continues to pursue an ascending path as a solo artist.
A seasoned veteran of recording and performing, Desmelik states of his career thus far, “I have recorded in state of the art studios and bedroom closets. I have performed on big festival stages for numerous people and in lonely corners in dive bars for three people and the bartender. Either way, what you get is me with my eyes closed getting lost in these songs. I have chosen the life of a songwriter and musician not because I wish to, or have to, but because I want to and need to. It is my therapy and in this regard the door to my sessions are open.”
Desmelik has released 13 albums to date as well as two albums with his former band Onus B. Johnson. Onus B. Johnson was a Band Finalist at the 2001 Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition and was voted Flagstaff’s best band three times. He was the winner of the 2002 Flagstaff Awards for Music Excellence (FAME) award for best singer-songwriter. Desmelik’s song “If It’s Good For You” was chosen in the Top 25 Songs of 2010 by His albums have placed consistently on the EuroAmericana Chart, Roots Music Report, Freeform American Roots Chart, and North Carolina Roots Radio Chart. Dave’s albums have also been voted repeatedly in the “Best Releases” by the listeners of WNCW radio as well as being voted in the “Best Of” Mountain Xpress Readers’ Poll. His recordings have been reviewed in a number of reputable publications and online music sources such as Maverick Magazine (UK), Southeast Performer Magazine, and (Flyinshoes Reviews) to name a few. He has toured extensively in support of his songs including numerous performances in the USA and UK. Some notable artists Desmelik has opened for and/or shared the stage with are Drivin' N Cryin', Robbie Fulks, Chuck Brodsky, Richard Buckner, The Black Lillies, Cary Hudson, Bow Thayer, Shawn Mullins, Pieta Brown and Bo Ramsey among others.
If you listen to Dave Desmelik’s songs, whether lyrical or instrumental, you may become pleasantly fixed in the simplistic realness of them and if you hear Desmelik in a live setting you may realize that there are no tricks, just a genuine venture into the highs and lows of life.
